Breed specific Grooming

All breed specific grooms are based on Australian guidelines and show standard conventions. Our personal preference is to base the interpretation of these guidelines by using "Notes From The Grooming Table" as our go-to starting point.

The personal preferences of individual clients and the willingness of their dog to stand and be groomed for the time required may necessitate slight or moderate changes to the standard. These amendments are deemed acceptable for all pet rather than show dogs. They may be the only option if the coat of the dog has not been adequately cared for to maintain the profile without causing pain or distress to the dog.

As far as individual client preferences, please ask in writing, ideally with a photo of what is desirable with any requests for deviation from the recognised breed standard when grooming

Dog Grooming

We use a variety of grooming techniques

There are often several choices available to attain the same look with breed specific grooming. The easiest and quickest way is to clip the coat, often at different lengths to achieve the desired look.

A more difficult, longer and more complicated method is to hand strip. We offer hand stripping, but we urge caution that unless there is a specific reason to use this technique it will be a considerably more costly way of achieving the effect desired. Not only is it labour intensive and require extensive skill to get perfect, but it requires a certain extra level of cooperation from the dog. It is usually started when a dog is very young and must be maintained regularly in order for the dog to be desensitized to its use. Any issues with dog lacking tolerance or not cooperating renders this technique impossible.

Please make sure you book enough time for your dog to be groomed according to your requirements. The biggest issue we find is that clients do not appreciate how long it can take to achieve the desired outcome, especially with a dog that is not used to being groomed or who has unfortunately had previous bad encounters.

Our goal is always to present a quality outcome with a dog that has enjoyed our company!
